Wang Ning is a master calligrapher and Chinese seal maker. His writing of Chinese characters reflects the same kind of flow and relaxed breathing of Tai Chi Chuan, playful yet simultaneously precise and concentrated. Ning will bring the two forms together by using their grace, postures, and brush movement to create a type of moving meditation.
Philosopher and optimist, Master Wang makes diving into the art of brush writing accessible and joyful.
Step by step Master Wang will guide us in this ancient art:
Grinding our own ink in the traditional way - a meditative preparation for picking up the brush and touching the paper.
Studying one or more characters in depth.
Envisioning writing.
Writing! Not painting.
Weaving form and meaning as we write.
Each participant will receive a personal calligraphy as a gift. Your Chinese name or another meaningful word.
This workshop will be part of bringing in the Chinese New Year of the Fire Horse.
