Beginning and Continuing Wudangshan Taijiquan Class

Wudangshan is a traditional long form that improves balance, focus, body awareness and mindfulness; often practiced as a moving mediation.

Mondays, 6:00-7:30pm; Tuesday 6:00-7:30pm; Wednesday 6:30-8:00pm
Ongoing. Students of all levels welcome.

Wudangshan is taught one posture at a time, at the student's pace, with an intensive focus on fundamentals of movement. Wudangshan is a starting point for anyone interested in the art of taijiquan. Beginning students will start learning principles and fundamentals essential for taiji, starting with lower body control. They will continue through the form, posture by posture at their own pace.

This is a traditional long empty hand form which the same posture list as the commonly taught Yang style; however each posture generally contains a few more movement or applications.  The form has 108 postures and, when performed in its entirety, takes 45 minutes to complete.  Students usually learn the form in roughly 2 years but are able to start benefiting from the practice of the form after a month or so, as principles of movement are ingrained.

More advanced students who have a small foundation in the Wudangshan 108 empty hand form will take on a few postures each week and focus on corrections personalized for the students. Class will also build taiji principles details within the postures; details include matching, stance work, alignment and applications of postures.
